HiI am have installed Windows 7 on a spare hard disc in my PC and am able to install software ok. However, I am unable to use the Steinberg cubase 4 free Cubase 4.
It won't install in Windows 7. As an experiment I tried to install an earlier version of Cubase SX cubass which was written for XP, and that installs first time. However, that version is about 5 years old and I need to install the latest Cubase 4. I have tried to change the compatibility settings, but none of the alternatives work. Any thoughts or suggestions about this. So far I've had no luck with SE3 in Vista I had to resort to 'compatibilty' which worked'or and for me this is a biggy the Roland VG99 usb driver, which installs via compatability but offers no ASIO driver, buffer size etc, just as a plain audio device.
Finally got SE3 to install after copying the CD to a folder and going back to steinberg cubase 4 free original dongle drivers. W7 moaned about 'This program may not have installed properly etc' steinbegr it seems OK. I have to write a line here. I'm a Cubase 5 owner! Trust steinbefg, nevertheless the Vista 64bit. Now you are encountering hefty stuttering and audio dropouts in 6ms of ASIO latency, or on even higher latencies!
And this is not happening in Windows XP! And this is with the same project! I want this setup to work, or I have to, when the support of XP 32bit ends. I was hoping for this W7 RC1 to work, but it's not good cubxse realtime audio. Why is Windows XP working so well? Why should we upgrade? Should I order a MAC next time? Or stick with the best OS ever made? For not receving any replys of: 'what is your system' bla bla bla. We musicians have to stick with XP, no problem at all.
I love XP very much, and even more after steinberg cubase 4 free Windows7, but it should not steinberg cubase 4 free this way! Please fix this realtime audio once fore all, like the Windows XP works!
